VUSD named MODEL DISTRICT by state of California for dropout prevention

Our ANTI friends love to run down our VUSD schools as failures and dropout factories. Yet our district was selected as one of only ten in the state of California as a model of drop out prevention. We do a LOT right here in VUSD.

VISTA - A state panel recently named Vista Unified one of 10 school districts across the state that will be considered a model for keeping kids in school.

The State School Attendance Review Board - a panel of parents, educators and law enforcement officers - picked the districts based on the programs they have for preventing dropouts and dealing with students who are frequently truant or in trouble.

"Implementing programs to ensure regular attendance and high school graduation of our highest-risk students is one of the most daunting challenges we face in public education," State Superintendent Jack O'Connell said Monday in a media release.
VUSD joins Grossmont Union High School District and Chula Vista Elementary School District in San Diego County and seven other districts across the state in becoming the first to earn the designation.

"These school districts have taken on that challenge by creating a safety net for students with persistent school attendance or behavior problems," O'Connell stated in the prepared release. "They are to be congratulated and recognized for their outstanding commitment to their students by keeping them in school and on track."
