The Obama Stimulus means millions more for VUSD

Our ANTI friends like to say that VUSD is in desperate budget straits but as usual they are wrong. Obama and the democrats in Congress rode to the rescue with the Stimulus that meant millions for our local school district.

Local Congressman Brian Bilbray and Darrel Issa voted against the stimulus as did every other Republican in Congress.

VISTA: School officials to update 2008-09 budget

STACY BRANDT - sbrandt@nctimes.com Posted: Monday, October 12, 2009 5:30 pm

VISTA ----School officials in Vista will present budget updates Thursday that show the district brought in more money than expected during the last school year.
When Vista Unified School District officials last updated its 2008-09 budget in February, they expected to bring in $198 million and spend $210 million. Now, they're expecting to bring in $220 million and spend $215 million, according to a budget adjustment set to be approved Thursday.

The additional income is mostly federal stimulus money.

The district's regular school board meeting is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. Thursday at Foothill Oak Elementary School, 1370 Oak Drive.

Also at the meeting, the board will vote on a revision of how to spend its federal stimulus money. District officials are recommending using some of it to pay for professional development, a middle school math coach and technological improvements.
