In Oceanside district administration showed real leadership and agreed to a pay cut before asking teachers to do the same.
Too bad Dr. Joyce Bales, superintendent of Vista Unified School District, did not take the same tack in negotiations with the VUSD teachers. In December negotiations she demanded that teachers take a 5% pay cut* while refusing to take the same percentage pay cut herself.
It was only after the teachers organized and embarrassed her publicly at a board meeting that she grudgingly agreed to take the same cut next year that she was demanding of employees.
